Welcome to Labrys Chicago

The "Labrys" is a double-sided axe that the Amazons were said to use as their main weapon. Women have adopted the labrys as a symbol of power and independence.

Many women wear necklaces or earrings with a labrys symbol as a way to identify themselves to other independent women.

The labrys was resurrected as a female symbol of power and independence in the 1970s by a number of lesbian and feminist organizations. It's popularity grew when articles about its origins were published in feminist literature of the time.

Labrys Chicago is...

Chicago lesbian

We are:

Women who talk race and politics & girl couples who talk sports; lesbians who lunch & chicks who crunch; women in heels with irony & women wearing boas for the fun of it; activists who talk gender theory and ladies who do conscious gender performances.

We are Labrys Chicago!

Totally-Genuine, positive community for LBT folks and their straight allies, especially fem(me)inists & diversity-conscious women of all colors, races, and orientations.
